Visiting: Highly RecommendedLGBT+ visiting: Highly Recommended

Andorra has no airport and no army โ€” you just drive up into the Pyrenees from France or Spain and there it is. Come in winter for Grandvalira's slopes, in summer for hiking the UNESCO-listed Madriu valley, and any time for the giant thermal lagoons of Caldea. It's tranquil to the point of sleepy, tax-free shopping aside, and one of the most LGBT+ friendly places anywhere.

Peace

How peaceful the country is โ€” lower is better.

3.4(worst)
1.0(best)

Andorra: 1.1

Ranked 3rd most peaceful country in the world.

The Global Peace Index leaves out microstates, so we estimated Andorra ourselves with the GPI's published method โ€” its 23 indicators, weights and scoring bands: 1.15.

No army, negligible crime and no conflict of any kind โ€” only routine policing keeps the number off the index floor.

Freedom

Personal and economic freedom โ€” higher is better.

2.5(worst)
9.3(best)

Andorra: 9.1

Ranked 2nd freest country in the world.

The Human Freedom Index skips microstates, so this 9.08 is our own estimate โ€” built with the index's published method: the same 12 categories of personal and economic freedom, equally weighted.

Day-to-day life (speech, movement, religion) scores 9.58; doing business and owning property, 8.38. Scored from the index's own underlying sources โ€” V-Dem, Freedom House, UNODC, CPJ and World Bank data.

One of the ten best countries on Earth for LGBT+ equality โ€” scoring 80 out of 100.

The law runs ahead of public opinion here โ€” legal protections score 86 out of 100, everyday attitudes 74.
